Reading over my journal today I came across an entry I made a few years back when I made it my main goal for that year to increase my money IQ, my financial and business skills and intelligence.

My theory was (and still is), the more we know, the more comfortable and confident we are with any particular area of our life and with confidence comes higher self-esteem and therefore, higher levels of success.

So if you came to my house then, you would see piles of books and audio programs on finance, business, and money.

Out of the Mouth of Babes

My daughter, who was 12 at the time, came into my room one day and asked what I was reading. I said I am reading a book called Seven Years to Seven Figures and it is true stories on how ordinary people became self-made millionaires.

She said, “Mom, you are always reading books about money!”

Defensively, I replied that it hasn’t been always but in the last 6 months or so I do.

She said, “Isn’t it much better to speak directly to the people who are wealthy and ask them what it is they are doing and ask them to give you some advice?”

Still defensively I said that that is what I am doing by reading a book…

To which she replied, “Well, I have been around wealthy people and one thing I noticed is that they don’t spend their time reading books about how to make money; they are confident about making money and don’t feel like there is a need to learn about it and, I think that is why they make a lot of money! May be you too should stop believing that there is something wrong with you and just go out there and make money?!”

Act as If

Well, I just sat there staring at her! I mean, I’ve read about “act as if” theory and first believing that you can do something in order to attract it but hearing it from a 12-year old who said it so matter-of-facty just threw me off and got me thinking…

What if all of the current problems or issues in our lives we simply attract through our lack of confidence, or guilt, or misplaced sense of responsibility? What if by simply believing that we are a magnet for money, love, great opportunities, etc., we can become one?

This is some food for thought for you and here are some practical steps you can take…

ACTION:

  1. Identify a belief or a consistent thought pattern that might be creating the reality you are not enjoying at this point in time.
  2. Change that belief into a positive statement or affirmation and start visualizing your situation exactly in a way you WANT it to be rather than focusing on what is wrong and what is not working.

For example, let’s say you have identified a negative belief that during the current economic climate it is very difficult to make money; that people don’t have the money to spend and banks refuse to lend, and this belief is preventing you from moving forward fearlessly.

Now take this belief and turn it into a positive belief, such as

– “This is a perfect time to make money!”

– “Great deals are everywhere and opportunities to earn are huge!”

– Or, “there is a company out there who is looking for someone exactly with my skills and knowledge and I see myself loving working for them!”

Basically, start creating the reality that you want rather than focusing on what is wrong and see how your life will shift.

The speed of the shift will depend on how often you focus on creating the life you want vs. focusing on what is not working.

Easy enough? Then give it a try and be consistent until it becomes your habit. And remind yourself that you deserve a life full of health, wealth, love, and perfect self-expression!
